„Heute nutzen immer mehr Menschen alle verfügbaren Möglichkeiten sich zu optimieren. Das schreibt die Autorin Maja Storch im Buch, die Lust normal zu sein. Man sei nicht einfach bur berufstätig, sondern mache Karriere. Der Körper werde auf Idealmass modelliert, die Kinder seien Genies und die jeweiligen Partner traumhafte Fabelwesen.

Für viele gibt es gute Gründe täglich besser zu werden. Schließlich, so glauben sie, kommt nur derjenige an, der alle Möglichkeiten nutzt, um die grenzenlose Aufmerksamkeit seiner Mitmenschen zu bekommen.
Eine Entwicklung, die zwangsläufig unzumacht, weil sie ein selbstbestimmtes Leben verleugnet – wenn man als Abziehbild jener lebt, die auf Facebook oder Instagram gerade angesagt sind.“
