DF veteran here with some tips: Always take laborer as your starting class. Completing your class quests gives you a helmet light, a nail gun, and early access to better tools, workbenches, concrete and steel. You want a concrete base for the day 7 horde and steel for day 21. With Darkness Falls at end game, even with laser weapons you are pretty much barely surviving at GS 240+ with titanium blocks and max points.
