The manuel calls for #1 universal joint lubricant. This is basicly a light wheel bearing grease. This has been discussed a few times in the past and if you look up "knuckle pudding" in a search you will find more info. The Saturns did have issues with shift forks breaking, being aluminum. Some folks just swapped it with a Warn cast bronze type fork. Multi viscosity oils (ie: 10w30) came around when engines started using hydraulic lifters. Standard 30w, usually Valvoline brand, is what I use in most old engines with solid tappets like the flatheads. A different weight oil might be appropriate for places where the temperature may be more extream than in the Southern US.

At less than $500, it might be worth a shot. My son has come of age and wants to restore the 2a in the backyard. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row and I knew this would be an issue some day. That day is here. I don't want that crappy Bestop tigertop and I don't necessarily want that 10 million dollar 6 piece top from Beachwood.
