A few other forums seem to think this is to with finding the coral claw to open the puzzle door. This is an issue in the room at the end of the barrow where there is a gate, a button, throne, chest, 2 pillars, a monster sat in the throne and a bunch of druigar things in the wall. Some forums also discuss 2 different scenarios.

It took a bit of time to understand, so I was close to searching for the answer, but then I re-read the notes and after a bit of thinking, it made sense. The quest updates. Backtrack through Yngol Barrow and fast travel to Jarl Korir. Give him the helm to complete that quest then fast travel back to Yngol Barrow. Yngol's Shade spawns and the Helm of Yngol appears on the skeleton. In each of my tests the back door opens automatically once the Shade is defeated.

Acording to my google search leading me to UESP, It says I find the Helm of Yngol in it and the gates will open for me to continue.
