Many of Kansas' most scenic sites-Monument Rocks, Castle Rock, Mushroom Rock, Rock City, Kanopolis State Park and more-lie within 30 miles of the interstate, the busiest east-west route in the state. The nearest town is Marquette; not much there though it has a small grocery store. Mushroom Rock State Park is a few miles away and interesting. Kanopolis Lake is lovely and would provide water sports fun had it been accessible. We didn't get to Ellsworth or Kanopolis but saw a Kansas PBS program which showed some interesting things to see there.
