In 1660, after Charles II was restored to the throne, two committees were formed to administrate the colonies: one for trade, and one for plantations. The two committees merged in 1672. Finally, in 1675, the king appointed a committee of the Privy Council called the Lords of the Committee of Trade and Plantations, also known as the Lords of Trade..
