Some things are unlocked once you reach the required affection level. I don't know if it's a bug in your case, but in mine, I just had to wait, and little by little new things were unlocked. I think you need to get her affection levels up high enough so you can give her a different nickname. BTW, the nickname I gave her was murderer. Now, her nickname is Monikins.
